Quaboag Class of '84 Reunion

Greetings Quaboag Classmates!

It's hard to believe that our 25th Reunion is right around the corner!!

I've created this Blog in order for us to share ideas before, during and after the reunion. I'm hoping that this medium will allow for a more fluent exchange of input as opposed to standard email. Please share the Blog URL with others from the class of 1984 that you are in touch with.

I look forward to reading your posts, sharing memories, brainstorming ideas and most of all ... seeing you at the reuinion later this year.

Best,

Deborah (Fijol) Day

  1. All,

Thank you for visiting the reunion blog. In the near future, I plan to add photos from the yearbook to this site if no one has any objections. You can email me at chemqueen1988@sbcglobal.net if you have photos that you would like me to include...or you can upload your own. Please share this site with others.

Pam has some really good suggestions regarding a possible time and place for the reunion. Perhaps we can get an active conversation started...

  2. Hi All,
I spoke to Robin (Hitchcock) about having the reunion at her restaurant in Palmer. It's right off the Mass Pike and not far from Sturbridge if anyone would need a hotel room. The restaurant is called The Steaming Tender, they have a web site if you are interested in checking it out. It's a beautiful old building which was the Palmer RailRoad station back in the day. We also agreed that maybe she would open up her club car (an old train car on the restaurant premises) for the first hour or 1 1/2 hrs for drinks/appetizers and then at 9pm, if we want a DJ, we could all go over to the restaurant and have the whole place to ourselves at that point. Let me know your thoughts!Pam

  3. Here is the link for the Steaming Tender Restaurant -- which looks amazing! You will have to cut/paste the link into your browser.

  4. What is the seating capacity? If you figure most of the class attends (being the 25th), with a date, that would be around 200 people.

  5. I do a little bit of traveling, and it's so much easier attending events which are held at a hotel. Is this something important for the out of area travelers (Barry, Deb, etc)?

  6. Dan, you bring up some very good points.

What do you think the probability of 'most of the class' attending would be? Based on the show at the 20th, I'd say the numbers will be on the rather low side...maybe half of the class at most. I'm sure there is some formula that most reunion committies base their numbers on. I'll leave that to you, the engineer, to calculate...lol

With regard to travelling, I would say that it would be a good idea for the committee to put together a listing of suggested accommodations but I don't necessarily feel as though the event itself ought to occur at a hotel (although convenient). Did you have something specific in mind? We should really consider all options at this point.

Oh, and another point of conversation would be whether or not the 25th reunion ought to be a single event or multiple day event.

Enjoy your day :) Thanks for blogging!

  7. Hi Deb,

I definitely don't have any place in mind, just wanted to get a feel for people's preference. Being the closest hotels to Palmer are 30 minutes away, that may not be the most desirable location.

Being the 25th I would expect the highest turnout, closer to what the 5th was. You can't base it off the last one because not everyone got invitation (I know because I never got one).

Based upon that mishap I would suggest we start updating the list and contact info. And at the same time get a feel for how many people are thinking of coming.

That's it for my brain tonight.

    Dan

  8. Okay, so....this conversation needs to be resurrected. Has the committee (or anyone) made any progress re: the reunion in the last month or so? If so....please inform.

Since we are now officially in 'spring', we are limiting ourselves to basically re-uniting in summer (if we work quickly) or fall of 2009 since no one really prefers winter...ugh.

What is the best idea re: contacting people? How did we manage to do this for past reunions? How can technology help us? I am open to suggestions so that we can get the largest turn out possible at the 25th!

    Hope everyone is doing well!!

    Deborah~

  9. Hi Deb: I spoke a little with Dan about where would possibly be good for the reunion. My suggestion would be to keep it local. One of the towns that we grew up in. There's the Old Tavern in W. Brookfield. I believe we had our 10th or 15th there. That wasn't a bad place. Salem Croft Inn is another. Someplace local. Even somewhere in Sturbridge where there might be hotels available for out of state alumni. What do you think?
